A Yellowstone Gift

Very busy on the Yellowstone River this time of year. Many recreationists take the opportunity of the many activities offered by the river and neighboring areas, making the paradise valley flood with people. The land is still plenty green, and water is clear and modest. Areas close to where we live, yet don't explore much of this area due to the high populations of people and limited solitude.

A person of interest had brought us to the Yellowstone area. "Charley Crockett" playing in Emigrant, an opportunity we couldn't pass up. Of course, I could hardly think of being next to the Yellowstone and not packing fishing gear and making a plan. Our journey's interest had brought us to the canyon, an area we had found intriguing.

Large rapids and steep ledges as you look down onto the river. Lots of rafts and kayaks make their way down in the thrill of the flow. We found a canoe, 20ft above the waters edge, wrapped around a tree from the devastating floods. Salmonfly and Caddis announce their presence as they emerge from rocks and crevices, offering the trout the opportunity to rise. Casting a large Salmonfly imitation dry fly, a dark shape from the depths either takes the bug, or refuses the take, smart fish.

Riding our bikes down a historic old road, overlooking the Yellowstone, this was a unique experience indeed. Yellowstone Cutthroats and a Rainbow Trout were caught. Taking in the scenic landscape as much as we could ,the hours grew closer to music time. We return to the truck in good timing, and return to Emigrant. After the long wait to admission, the troves of fans pick their spots in hopes of reserving a good spot. Around three hours of great music,a cool environment, and a perfect evening with my Dad doing something different and seeing a true performer in the music world........
